Admiral Salo is best recalled as the commander of the Harvester of Sorrows, an organic, hive-like space vessel which served as one of the most fearsome weapons in the Annihilation Wave's arsenal.
A near-indestructible living organism created by the Negative Zone geneticist Hawal, the Harvester automatically regenerated whenever damaged by enemy fire and possessed many redundant parts that automatically took over vital functions when other parts of the same type were damaged.
The slow-moving, massive Harvester was as large as a small planetoid and engulfed other planets in an energy bubble which slowly broke the planets down to their most basic organic elements. The raw liquid-like residue was then transported into the bowels of the Harvester and used to feed its crew and sustain the Harvester itself.
It was widely believed during the Annihilation War that the Harvester was impervious to conventional weapons and could only be destroyed by a potent viral infection.
Although Salo served as the craft's only known commander, had he died another member of the Harvester would have automatically taken his place.
Salo possessed compound eyes that granted him a broad range of sight and a carapace-like protective shell around his lower abdomen. He was a highly experienced and cunning military strategist, having originated on the planet Anthros shortly after Annihilus and fighting as a member of Annihilus' insectoid military for decades.
In every way, Admiral Salo personified the Annihilation Wave's ideals of cruelty and efficiency.
Although killed by the Super-Skrull, Annihilus has shown us you can never keep a good bug down.
