The Avengers Superbowl trailer finally gave us a good look at Loki's alien army.
Turns out, Kevin Feige might be right after all, and it isn't really that big of a deal, though he did state the "aliens" appear in the comics.
First off, it ain't the Skrulls - or the Kree.
Don't look like a bunch of bugs from Annihilus' army, either.
Hmmm...sorta resembles the Badoon. Would be cool if they were the Badoon as there is an obvious Guardians of the Galaxy connection (with the movie and all).
Or could be, as Bleeding Cool puts it, beings from another one of the Nine Realms -- Muspelheim.
The evidence does support the Muspelheim theory:
”¢ In September, Feige mentioned, "...the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”
Ӣ In an interview with Tom Hiddleston, it was alluded to Loki journeying to the Seventh Circle of Hell. Muspelheim is the home of fire Demons (see pic right).
Ӣ Feige was asked about the aliens being from the Nine Realms, and actually stated, "Closer...It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that...."
Ӣ The aliens resemble the Frost Giants From Jotunheim (Thor movie); however, they don't look cold and I don't think they would use them as it would be too much like Thor.
Ӣ Obviously ties in with Thor and Loki
Here's a pic of the aliens from the trailer:
A pic from an issue of Thor (Via BC), with the denizens of Muspell. You'll note the lightning striking the building as seen in the trailer, as well as the resemblance in the boots and heads, etc.
