The Avengers (2012): $80.5 million Opening on Friday Is Second Biggest of All Time!
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1636:]]The Avengers movie opened Friday with a gross of $80.5 million on Friday, making Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios' super hero movie the second biggest opening in the U.S. of all time.
That number includes the midnight opening which saw The Avengers movie earn $18.7 million, placing the Assemblers eighth best overall and the top super hero movie midnight debut ever — surpassing The Dark Knight.
The $80.5 million Friday opening is well ahead of estimates, and now The Avengers movie has a chance at debuting at $170 million this weekend, which would make The Avengers the top grossing movie of all time.
Currently, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 holds the record for both the Friday and weekend premiere, with $91.1 million on its first day and $169.2 million for its opening weekend tally.
As of right now The Avengers movie has amassed $334.3 million internationally for a grand global total of $414.8 million, and looks to hit the $500 million mark by the end of the weekend.
