The Avengers 2 Scores Second Best Friday Opening Ever
The Avengers: Age Of Ultron "Epic" Spot
The Avengers assembled in full force for Age Of Ultron as the sequel has scored the second biggest Friday opening ever.
The Avengers 2 brought in a total of $84.5 million on Friday, which is just shy of the domestic record currently held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 with $91 million set in July 2011 by Warner Bros. The number also sets Age Of Ultron ahead of the first Avengers movie, which took in $80.8 million on Friday back in 2012.
Thursday night advance screenings are included in the Friday number, which gave Avengers 2 a boost as Ultron made $27.6 million, which is up from the $18.7 million the first Avengers Thursday night screening nabbed.
It's looking likely Avengers 2 will have an opening U.S. weekend gross of around $200 million to $210 million.
Internationally, The Avengers 2 has opened in 55% of the markets and has already made $340 million with South Korea taking the lead at $43 million. Whedon filmed in South Korea, and the movie featured scenes in South Korea as well as South Korean actress Claudia Kim.
Warner Bros' movie aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes, currently has Avengers 2 with a 75% positive critic rating and a 90% positive rating from fans.
