AMC announced plans for a new The Walking Dead spinoff series in 2015.
No title or specific details are known, but the new spinoff will be a part of The Walking Dead universe featuring new stories and characters, and not related to the comic book.
Robert Kirkman launched the popular comic book series of the same name ten years ago this October, with AMC adapting it for TV which has seen huge ratings.
"Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president, in a released statement. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."
"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” Robert Kirkman added. “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
As The Walking Dead follows a small group as they make their way from Atlanta up the East Coast, the new spinoff could be featured anywhere in the world as the zombie apocalypse affects the entire globe.
Cosmic Book News will be sure to update when more on The Walking Dead spinoff series becomes available.
"The Walking Dead"returns for Season 4 Sunday, October 13th at 9pm ET on AMC.
