Coming off of Seventh Son, Man from UNCLE and Ex Machinia, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander has been cast as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot from MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films.
Variety reports the news along with mention that Norwegian helmer Roar Uthaug is on board to direct the new Tomb Raider movie.
It's also said Star Wars' Daisy Ridley was up for the role, but Alicia Vikander was the top choice.
Swedish actress Alicia Vikander also has upcoming roles in Jason Bourne, Tulip Fever, The Light Between The Oceans and Submergence.
Tomb Raider is based on the popular video games, with two preceding movies starring Angelina Jolie having grossed over $400 million.
The new Rise of the Tomb Raider video game hits later this year as well.
