[[wysiwyg_imageupload:7257:]]Possible spoilers below regarding the death and return of Agent Phil Coulson.
As we know, Coulson seemingly died at the hands of Loki in The Avengers movie.
We also known that Agent Coulson lives, as Clark Gregg will be the lead in the ABC Marvel S.H.I.E.L.D TV series.
It's all been hush hush, but we are supposed to find out more in the pilot.
However, we may know what happened as a rumor has hit the net that might be the explanation.
Possible spoilers follow.
SlashFilm has it that Coulson's death was faked to unify The Avengers.
Now that part make sense as we know Nick Fury faked the bloody Captain America cards.
It's said The Avengers didn't have high enough security clearance, so they weren't "in" on it.
But it's said that Agent Coulson held his breath to trick everyone.
That's pretty lame if true, and somehow I doubt it to be the case as Clark Gregg said he only wanted to return if it didn't undermine The Avengers story and talking with Joss Whedon helped convince him that it didn't.
But hold his breath?
Here's the full rumor:
In the pilot, it’s revealed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the ultimate super spy, faked Agent Coulson’s death on purpose to motivate The Avengers. Some S.H.I.E.L.D. members were in on it (including, possibly, Maria Hill played by Cobie Smulders) but The Avengers were not. Their security clearance wasn’t high enough. Coulson was forced to hold his breath as part of the ruse and that’s a point of contention among his colleagues After the fact, Fury moved him to a remote location until things died down, and then he was reinserted into duty at the time of the show.
