Yours truly was invited up on stage at last month's New York Comic Con Spider-Man Panel by Editor Stephen Wacker to read a copy of Avenging Spider-Man #1!

Since the issue debuts tomorrow at your local comic shop, I thought today would be a good time to share my thoughts.

As I promised Mr. Wacker I would not reveal any spoilers, what I can say is that fans of Spider-Man will love it! Fans of the Avengers will love it! And while I don't consider myself a huge fan of either, I do happen to be a pretty big Hulk fan. So I am happy to say that fans of the Hulk will love it just the same!

Zeb Wells provides a fun story filled with even more fun dialogue as Spidey teams up with the Red Hulk. A moloid army has invaded New York (says so in the solicit; see no spoilers!), and the issue has everything you would expect and more. Avenging Spider-Man #1 sees the return of artist Joe Madureira! Suffice to say the art is gorgeous; Madureira provides an action-packed issue filled with monsters, mayhem and excitement. The characters jump out at you from every page; it's as if you can hear every "crash," "boom," and "bang" that Madureira provides. The book is easily the most impressive comic book debut art-wise I have seen in some time (sorry Zeb, I prefer my books in space; still very good nonetheless!).

Avenging Spider-Man #1 is definitely a great companion piece to the likes of Dan Slott's Amazing Spider-Man and any of the Brian Michael Bendis Avengers issues. Likewise, the issue is just as easily accessible if you happen to be a new reader.

As the panel concluded, and I exited off stage, I made mention to Mr. Wacker in regards to concerns about the art chores being on schedule. With that, he said issue two and most of issue three were in hand. And that was a month ago. I also added that this was better than Justice League #1! Which it was.

Finally, I would like to give a shout out to the father and son who were waiting in line for the My Cup O' Joe Panel who told me they took my picture while I was on stage reading the book. Now that's cool!

And what else is cool is the fact that Avenging Spider-Man comes with a free code for a digital copy!
