According to CNN, the popular video game "Guitar Hero" is officially done for.
Activsion Blizzard Inc. announced today that they will "cease publishing the game this year."
"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's 'Guitar Hero' business unit and discontinue development on its 'Guitar Hero' game for 2011," the company said in a statement.
Apparently, Activision wants to focus elsewhere as they state:
The decision was "based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences," the firm said.
I wonder if they feel that Guitar Hero has saturated the video game market as much as it could? "Declines in the music genre" - is there less music being produced? Maybe Rock n' Roll, I suppose?
It was cool while it lasted.
Guitar Hero's competitor Rock Band is still available, yes?
