Justice League #6

Today sees the third month of the New 52 DC Comics Relaunch come to a completion, and I thought I would share which titles I am still following.

To recap, I purchased and read all of the New 52. From that I stuck with 33 titles.

These were my top choices:

Action Comics, Aquaman, Batgirl, Batwoman, Blue Beetle, Detective Comics, Green Lantern Corps, The Flash, Justice League Dark, Stormwatch, Superboy, Supergirl, Teen Titans, Wonder Woman

Of those fourteen, 13 remain with 3 on the fence.

I decided to pass on Justice League Dark this past week as I was getting too many books and something had to be cut; however, I may very well end up picking it up next week. Blue Beetle looks to be gone as well; the first issue was really good, but the following two I felt were just average. Same goes for Wonder Woman and Superboy. First issues were excellent, but in the case of Wonder Woman the next two not so much. Superboy did have a cool ending to its third issue.

The next batch all depended on the second issue. If #2 turned out to be alright, they stayed; if not, they got the axe. Here's the list:

All-Star Western, Animal Man, Batman, Batwing, Captain Atom, Catwoman, Frankenstein, Mister Terrific, OMAC, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Resurrection Man, Suicide Squad, Swamp Thing, Voodoo

Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Batman, Batwing, Frankenstein, and OMAC all have been jettisoned to the top of my list! Great books!

All-Star Western had a fantastic debut; however, the second issue was totally unlike the first, and just did not justify the $3.99 price tag for 20 pages. CatwomanRed Hood, Resurrection Man, Suicide Squad and Voodoo are all gone. I had high hopes for Resurrection Man, but the forced TnA on DnA didn't fit in at ALL. CatwomanRed Hood and Suicide Squad just weren't my thing; I figure I can spend my money on something more akin to my tastes. The creative change on Voodoo was the reason I dropped this one. I did enjoy the first couple issues, though.

Last up, the "habit" buys. I said I would give these four issue each, but some couldn't make it past two. Here's the list:

Justice League, Green Lantern, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Red Lanterns, Superman

Justice League went right to the top of my pull list with #2 and 3; so that is definitely safe. Green Lantern #3 saved that issue for me; so that stays. Superman is Superman so that is staying no matter what. Scratch that. If DC puts JMS back on, I'm off. Both Green Lantern: New Guardians and Red Lanterns couldn't make it past the second issue. Both were very disappointing in terms of story and art. Atrocitus has no direction and only works as a villain. Regarding, New Guardians, I'm not sure what happened with Tyler Kirkham, who was fast becoming one of my favorites, but the quality seemed to be lacking. Likewise, the story was pretty bad as well. Kyle drawing a picture as a tip for a waitress? Yeah -- no.

Three months in, 12 more are out, leaving me a solid 21 titles on my pull list. That's about 18 or 19 more than my pre-New 52 list, and currently about 19 more than Marvel.

Not bad.
