STORY: Robert James Russell and Jesse Young
ART/COLORS: Chris Martinez
LETTERS: Jeff Pfaller
We have another entry from Wakefield’s Journal - a collection of short stories put out by Saint James Comics to give readers something to wet their appetites with in between the release of their full length books. This also gives Saint James an opportunity to try out different artists, so with each release you can expect a different art style and approach which makes these pretty fun.
This particular story I can definitely relate to and appreciate. Basically, Wakefield run’s into some of his old friends at a pub and over some pints (Guinness would be my choice) they swap stories, each trying to one up the other. One tells the story of a nest of harpies, another a bog witch, still another a ghost bull - all done in jest by the way which was great.
Russel and Young told this story very nicely as you get that sense of camaraderie they all share as they laugh and have a merry ol’ time. The art was pretty good and fit well for this story as it did impart that pub atmosphere. In addition, the art also conveyed a sort of eeriness, which if you read this tale - will become known!
