SDCC '10: Green Lantern: Emerald Empire Panel

2:00-3:00 Green Lantern: Emerald Empire— No evil shall escape this panel's sight as the top creative teams on the Green Lantern books drop hints on upcoming stories and take on your questions! Led by group Editor Eddie Berganza with Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, The Flash), Tony Bedard (Green Lantern Corps), Joe Prado (Brightest Day), and Ivan Reis (Brightest Day). Room 6A

DC Comic's Green Lantern: Emerald Empire panel was held at the 2010 Comic-Con International a bit ago.

Johns begins with the Green Lantern movie; how shooting is almost complete and mentions a lot of favorite Lanterns will be appearing. He says comic fans will be "unbelievably happy" as its faithful to the comics.

Brightest Day artist, Ivan Reis, speaks on the comic and how he had to find a middle ground on the terror and heroes. He adds he is doing more pages with BDay than with Blackest Night. Johns comments since Ivan did such a great job with the double page spreads early on; he kept giving them to the artist which was his mistake, and thanks Reis for keeping the book on schedule.

Writer Tony Bedard who just took over Green Lantern Corps from Peter Tomasi, mentions how intimating that was. He goes on to say a new villain, The Weoponer, will be revealed in his second arc as the one who forged Sinestro's ring. Sinestro's daughter will be in danger from the new foe!

Joe Prado, artist on Brightest Day, commented on how the characters he did in Blackest Night were easier than Bday; he finds it harder to do the new versions.

Its announced that come November 2011, there will be a new CGI animated Green Lantern cartoon on the Cartoon Network.

Before the panels opens up questions to the audience, Editor Eddie Berganza says they will be doing an "Untold Tales of Blackest Night."

Q&A time!

A question is asked about the Orange Lantern oath to which Johns responds, "It isn't mine." He also tells the audience he usually plans his books a couple years in advance, but with Green Lantern it's much longer.

A Dex-Starr Valentine's Day special is in the works which pleased the crowd; said to be about the Dex-Starr vs. Krypto fight everyone wants to see. Also there will be more use of Black and White Lanterns as opposed to "deputized" ones.

Reis says to look for a "Sinestro's Secret Origins" in the future that he is working on with Johns.

Tony Bedard, who also writes R.E.B.E.L.S., says Vril Dox will be bringing in the newly "deputized" Red Lantern -- Lobo!

A fan wants to know if there is a White Lantern oath. Johns says look for that in Brightest Day and says the constructs the White Lantern ring creates are forever.
