To Follow Up The Conclusion to Blackest Night This April

Dan DiDio announced that DC will follow up its recent hit mega event Blackest Night, with Brightest Day.

Brightest Day will be a 26 issue bi-weekly series that begins with Brightest Day #0 scribed by superstar writer Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi (Green Lantern Corps) this April after Blackest Night concludes. Regarding the art, all that is known at this time is that David Finch will be doing the covers. Finch was recently acquired by DC from Marvel and signed to an exclusive contract.

Announced as part of the Brightest Day banner and to be launched this April, will be the new Flash ongoing series which is also written by Johns with art by Francis Manapul (Flash:Rebirth). Two more titles announced that will be part of Brightest Day are Titans and the Justice League of America. Both Green Lantern titles carry the banner as well.

That leaves Johns writing three ongoings for DC in 2010, Green Lantern, Flash and Brightest Day. Johns also made it a point that Brightest Day will be more akin to 52 as both Johns and Tomasi are behind the reigns with the writing and scripting. In addition, Brightest Day shipping bi-weekly will make the art and writing all the better as more time is available, than say a weekly schedule .

“DC: Rebirth” as Brightest Day is being called, is said by Johns to be a way for the characters in the DC Universe to be introduced in new and exciting ways, for “…the past to be put to bed..” and that the characters “…can move on…” in an interview with IGN.com.

Regarding, Brightest Day, Geoff Johns teased via his twitter account:

"In order for the light to shine so brightly the darkness must be present."
Francis Bacon
