BLUEWATER UNMASKS GRAPHIC NOVELS FOR 1ST QUARTER 2011 Independent comic publisher Bluewater Productions announced its schedule for nearly a dozen graphic novels set to hit the stands during the first quarter of 2011. The lineup includes several limited-run mini-series collections, biographical compilations and a young reader offering. High profile titles like “William Shatner's: TekWar Chronicles” and the acclaimed “Nanny & Hank” lead the list. “This group of graphic novels are particularly strong and particularly diverse,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis, ”Whether you're a fan of hard sci-fi, speculative fiction, vampires, humor, mythology, superheroes and, yes, biographies of current personalities, there is something there for you.” Titles scheduled for release during the first few months of the upcoming year include ”William Shatner's: TekWar Chronicles: Persistence of Memory,” “Nanny & Hank: Retirement is Hell,” “Legend of Isis: Return of the Scarab Queen,” “Atlas: Greetings From Earth,” “The Imagination Manifesto Book 2,” “Missile to the Moon” “Power of the Valkyrie,” and “Tony & Cleo.” Additionally, the first quarter will present several of Bluewater's biography titles in graphic novel form including “Female Force: Europe,” “Black History Leaders,” and a special Justin Bieber expanded biography. “Along with full and complete story arcs, most of the books contain extras such as script samples, pinup posters, character design sketches, alternative artwork, special guest forwards and other special extras,” Davis noted. According to Davis, over the past 10 years, the graphic novel has evolved into a staple for both the comic book and the general publishing industry. “It binds certain themes more cohesively than individual issues as well as offers a sense of continuity to some of the larger-scoped stories.” More recently, graphic novels have been routinely available in libraries and book stores. They are breaking stereotypes as more than “funny books” and “geek-fiction.” As evidenced by the popularity of Bluewater's biography titles, they also serve in some educational or informational context.
