Issue #1 of the comic book miniseries, The Adventures of Lightning Squirrel, debuted 9/1/08, published in conjunction with Ronin Studios (http://www.ronin-studios.com). This was announced live Labor Day morning on 1160AM WVNJ radio, and received its first great review 9/24/08 at Ain’t It Cool News under the world-renowned site’s Indie Jones column. (http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/node/38459#11). Issue #2 debuted in December, 2008.
The Adventures of Lightning Squirrel (or TAOLS) is a series of very cartoony tales concerning a crime-fighting super-powered squirrel and his adventures, primarily in and around the town of Clifton, NJ, the author’s home town. Other primary characters are his arch-nemesis Swimming Lady, her genius boyfriend Comic Man, the cosmically-powered Airhead robot, evil ice-cream vendor Edward Spoonhands, and sometime ally Ice Weasel. Lightning Squirrel made his comic debut in summer, 2007 in the Hope: New Orleans charity anthology from Ronin Studios.
The comic book miniseries tells the beginning of the Lightning Squirrel ‘mythos,’ which is continued in the two previously-published novels, The Blawnox Unpleasantness (iUniverse, 2001) and Cosmic Redshifted Anthrocentric Worms: The Adventures of Lightning Squirrel (iUniverse, 2004).
The comic book is available for direct purchase through IndyPlanet (www.indyplanet.com), and further information is also available on the home page of the author’s website, http://danokdath.tripod.com/. Please see information on the website regarding the creative team and ongoing press coverage (print and internet) of the miniseries.
The book may be stocked in some specific bookstores as well, and the title is appearing (with or without its writer) at numerous comic book conventions around NJ and the USA, including ECCC and Wizard World Chicago. Lightning Squirrel and his cohorts will also be appearing in Hope: The Hero Initiative, the full-color charity anthology due out Spring, 2009 from Ronin Studios to benefit The Hero Initiative.
Jeffrey is available for interviews and appearances regarding his published works. Interviews with Jeffrey appeared in the August, 2008 issue of the Clifton Merchant Magazine, the Edison-Metuchen Sentinel, the Herald News, the Bergen Record, the Clifton Journal, The Daily Record (Morris County, NJ) and the Comicon PULSE (with Jennifer Contino). Issues #1 and #2 received very positive reviews at Ain’t It Cool News as well.
