It's learned that a casting change for Arrow Season 3 has resulted in Rila Fukushima, known for The Wolverine, now playing the DC Comics character Katana.

Deadline has it that Devon Aoki was originally set to play Katana, but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict, with Rila Fukushima landing the role.

Katana, aka Tatsu Yamashiro, is said to be a recurring role with the character described as a Japanese martial arts expert who wields a deadly sword, a blade from which her codename Katana is derived.

Katana will first appear in flashback scenes as a mentor to Oliver Queen and a critical influence on his journey to eventually become The Arrow of present day.

Arrow premiers Wednesday, October 8th at 8pm ET on the CW.

Season 3 synopsis:

In the aftermath of this victory, Season Three opens with Arrow now a hero to thecitizensof Starling. Crime is down, people feel safer, and Captain Lance even calls off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Basking in his success, Oliver believes he can finally have a private life and asks Felicity out on a date. But the second Oliver takes his eye off the ball, a deadly villain reappears in Starling, forcing Oliver to realize that he can never be Oliver Queen – not as long as the city needs The Arrow.
