Wizard and Toy Fare Magazines End to Become Wizard World Digital
Turns out the Fantastic Four #587 is not the only death we see this week as news comes of the demise of Wizard Magazine.
Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool was informed the Wizard publication is to close immediately with the staff being laid off - and all freelance assignments canceled.
A press release (below) from Wizard reveals the launch of a new digital magazine, "Wizard World," that is supposed to go live next month. It also states the company went public and their Comic Con tour will cover 12 cities.
Wizard Magazine ending comes at really is no surprise as members of the Wizard staff have been let go left and right in the past couple years. Add to that, Wizard chopped the popular price guide feature as well. The magazine was a shadow of its former self.
To be honest, I'm not sad that it's gone. Back in the day, as a kid, I remember reading it and feeling insulted at times. They seemed to make fun of their comic book readership more than anything. Hey, Quasar was on their dork-o-meter or something. Could be why.
Apparently, Toy Fare is not affected and is still going to be published.

Wizard Entertainment is ceasing publication of the print magazines Wizard and ToyFare. Wizard World, Inc. will begin production of the online publication “Wizard World” beginning in February. We feel this will allow us to reach an even wider audience in a format that is increasingly popular and more readily accessible.

From what I've heard on publishing Toy Fare, less than a hand full (two, maybe?) actually work on putting it together and getting it out.
