The Walking Dead Season 4 Finale Thoughts
Below you can check out my thoughts and spoilers on tonight's Season 4 finale episode of The Walking Dead.
We should probably get this out of the way right now - there are no spoilers.
Not much went down in the episode to really warrant spoiler warnings.
No one died and not much really happened (so the teaser posters were nothing but hype).
Red flags went off for me when the episode started featuring a flashback to the prison and Hershel.
For some reason or another, The Walking Dead creators and producers just can't get away from the Prison.
The Prison storyline quickly became a bore and overstayed its welcome last season as did The Governor.
Are we finally done with it now, guys?
Quick reacap: This episode saw Rick, Michonne and Carl meet up with Daryl, who in turn met up with Maggie and Glenn's group in Terminus where they (big surprise) find out it isn't exactly sanctuary - at least for them.
Then the episode ended, and we have to wait seven more months and probably half of season 5 to see what happens.
The good news is that The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple stated on Talking Dead that Season 5 will feature more of Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) as well as going in a complete different direction than this season.
So that is two positive things to look forward to.
This episode also saw the return of the "Rick" from Season 1, which it only took them three years to return to. The "woah is me Rick" - like the prison - overstayed its welcome a LONG time ago. I guess we always had Daryl, though.
Fans of The Walking Dead comic should have recognized the scene featuring the attempted rape of Carl. It pretty much went down in the episode just as it did in the comic except it was a bit less graphic regarding Carl, if I recall correctly (also no Daryl and Michonne).
Regarding Terminus, we still don't know exactly what they are about, but online speculation is they are a bunch of cannibals, which the episode seemed to hint at with the meat being cooked and the human bones littered in the yard. It looks as if Terminus brings in people with promises of false hope and then eats them. Too bad for Terminus is that Rick and his group were pretty much expecting that, so as Rick stated with his last line, "They're screwing with the wrong people," what happens next should be pretty good.
Regarding Rick's last statement, Gimple also said on Talking Dead, that they couldn't use the F-word due to FCC, families watching and such.
Here's the page from the comics:
I think the episode (and us) would have been better served not being a finale as the cliff hanger - if you want to call it that - was a let down.
There just wasn't a lot going on, and it was way too drawn out for my tastes.
Here are some Twitter reactions:
