TV Review: Green Lantern: The Animated Series - Regime Change (Season 1, Episode 10)

1639 Yep, if you’ve seen your previews or were lucky enough to catch Green Lantern: The Animated Series this morning (5/5), you know the little blue guys, the Guardians of the Universe, are back.

But the Oa munchkins did not keep this excellent animated program from being all about our boys Hal, Kilowog and Raser (the rogue Red Lantern). And of course everyone’s favorite A.I., Aya.

This time around in “Regime Change,” the Lanterns must return to the planet Betrassus (remember it?) and assist Her Royal Highness Queen Iolande who seems to be up to her bejeweled armpits in Red Lanterns.

No Big A here (well --.). Nope, our foe is Iolande’s brother Ragnar (what is it with these royal siblings?) who has by some circumstance received a red power ring. He has certainly had enough hatred vented at the Green Lanterns. It is this rage which drives the ring to find Ragnar and start his campaign of terror?

Anyhoo, the Royal Pain eagerly accepts the red ring and, well, chaos ensues, with Hal, Kilowog and the rest of our merry bunch attempting to save the queen and her world before Ragnar either becomes king -- or brings the Krypton scenario to Betrassus altogether.

This program on Cartoon Network continues to focus on the maturity of this franchise’s followers and lets us know there is more in the words, deeds and actions herein than the kiddies are picking up. This is especially true with Raser, a great new find for the Lanterns mythos.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series airs Saturdays at 10 a.m. on Cartoon Network
