TV Review: Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes - Michael Korvac (Season 2, Episode 6)

Body

1640 Wow! Talk about cosmic!

If Marvel can be this good in their kiddy toons, why can’t their books be this great?

Here we are with this Sunday’s episode of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and we have not only Adam Warlock and Michael Korvac together, but also Star-Lord, Quasar (Phyla edition; sorry, Matt), Groot, Rocket Raccoon with a British accent, and the Kree!

And, of course, it was written by -- Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, AKA DnA!

Briefly, Korvac is found by police who bring him to Avengers Mansion and the Wasp takes him under her wing (lol). He says he has been experimented on by aliens (turns out to be the Kree) and then escaped and is seeking his lady love, Corrina.

Much of that is true. What Korvac failed to do was tell Jan he is mad, omnipotent thanks to Kree experiments, and has been gone for two years, sought by the Guardians of the Galaxy because of a destructive path laid in his wake.

Some great battles here including Rocket vs. Hulk (!), Groot vs. Hulk, Phylla vs. Iron Man, Ms. Marvel vs. Korvac, and Hawkeye vs. Star-Lord.

Eventually the Avengers are convinced by the Guardians of the truth of Korvac, and they team up. But it is his love for Corrina and her fear of him that has Michael jettisoning himself from NYC and Earth.

But he is still there among the stars, so the Guardians’ work, as usual, is not done.

What a great toon and a fantastic reminder of better days in the books for what was once Marvel Cosmic. Too bad the MC Powers That Be ruined that one, eh?
