TV Review: Avengers Assemble -- "Ghost of a Chance," Episode 3

Body

9128

In Marvel's new Disney XD offering, Avengers Assemble, Falcon is the new kid on the block. And while he is fairly popular for his first few minutes in Avengers Tower -- Sam's mom sent cookies -- he finds mixing with his fellow Avengers quite difficult.

There is a good reason: like in Avengers #2, the bodies of the Avengers have been assimilated by Space Phantoms. In this case, even Thor.

Falcoln remains the only Avenger left on Earth as Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk are trapped in Limbo.

I cannot say I like the modernized phantoms over Jack Kirby's original, except that they do appear more ghost than alien, if that was the aim.

The animation is quite good on this premiere episode with a breath-tasking game of aerial catch over Manhattan between Stark and a nervous Wilson.

Some big humor also courtesy of Hulk, Thor and the aforementioned cookies. Ever wonder what Hulk keeps in his room? You find out here.

Falcon uses Redwing (don't ask) to get the phantoms out of the tower and to Limbo where they battle their doppelgangers,

The united Avengers then return to Earth, seal the rift to Limbo and restart the battle for the remaining cookies.

An enjoyable episode with some nostalgia for VERY longtime Avengers fans, action and humor as well.

Grodd VFX blew the puny humans' minds!
The game was being developed by Double Helix before it got the axe for whatever reason.
Hopefully the real deal gets released this month.
