TV Review: Avengers Assemble -- "The Ambassador"



A touching, amusing and sometimes surprising story of trust stars Captain America and Victor Von Doom in this week's Avengers Assemble.

Doom, it seems, has diplomatic immunity and has requested that Captain America be his bodyguard while in the U.S. The threat? Red Skull in his mysterious Cabal.

During the adventure and attacks on Doom by Red Skull, Hyperion, Attuma, a very weird-looking Dracula and an even weirder looking MODOK, a strange bond of trust develops between Captain America and Doom.

This trust leads to Cap rushing Doom to Avengers Tower after the attack by the Red Skull apparently shuts down vital functions of Doom's armor..

It is all quite touching. Are we really seeing the tender side of Doctor Doom that we know has been there since the early days of Fantastic Four?

No, unfortunately not. It is just another plot of Doom to steal Stark's tech. Luckily, Cap sees through the ruse and Tony is able to pull the wool over Victor's masked eye slits. He switches the tech Doom is after.

The ending is very amusing as several small digital Iron Men turn off all the power in Castle Doom.

Week after week, this cartoon surprises me with its wit, adventure, action and animation. They are truly doing this one right!
