Thor (2011) movie: Opens First at $66 million

picThor hammered into the #1 spot in theaters this past weekend (U.S.) and had the second biggest opening of the year at $66 million.

Opening in almost 4000 theaters (3955), with 213 of them on IMAX, Thor averaged $16,800 per theater - with ten percent ($6.6 million) coming from IMAX.

Thor debuted in Sydney, Australia a couple weeks ago and around the world - so far totallying $242 million.

Not a bad start to a movie that has an estimated price tag at $150 million.

Thor hammers into theaters May 6th 2011, directed by Kenneth Branagh starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.
