Superman: Man Of Steel (2013): Michael Shannon Talks Zod, Fight Scene and Christopher Reeve

Michael Shannon, who plays Zod in the new Superman reboot, the Man of Steel, spoke with both Digital Spy and Empire Online about playing the last General of Krypton.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Shannon mentions a fight scene with Russel Crowe's character, Jor-El (that Crowe tweeted about earlier), and that it's a quick fight.

"We do have a fight sequence in the film. We worked on it for a long time, we rehearsed it for a long time, then you shoot it and it's done. It's kind of strange to put all this work into something that's going to be maybe a minute long [on film]," he said.

Next, Shannon comments on comparing Henry Cavill to the legendary super man, Christopher Reeve. He says he hasn't had enough screen time with Cavill, but that Cavill does show a lot of promise.

"I've shot exactly one scene with Henry so far. We have a lot together, we just haven't shot it yet." Shannon continued: "He seems very appropriate for the part, he's a big fella and he's very handsome and charming, so it's certainly understandable why they cast him. But I'll always have a soft spot for Christopher Reeve."
In speaking with Empire, Michael Shannon is asked if the Man of Steel will feature the classic "kneel before Zod" scene that Terrance Stamp is known for in Superman II.
While Shannon says it is not out of the question, he seems to be saying that it probably will not be featured -- or will it?
"It's not a sure thing there will be any kneeling in the film. It's not a dead issue, but it's not a certainty," he said.
