One name said to be in contention to direct the new Star Wars Episode VII movie from Disney is Colin Trevorrow.

Trevorrow is an up-and-coming director known for his realistic take on his science-fiction movie, Safety Not Guaranteed.

It's previously been rumored that Colin Trevorrow met with George Lucas to discuss the new Star Wars project.

Turns out that indeed may be true as someone dug up a video interview with Trevorrow from back in June where Trevorrow seems to suggest his next project is Star Wars -- albeit without directing stating so.

I can’t speak with any specificity as to what the next thing will be. There are amazing opportunities that have arisen as a result of this. One of them, I will say, will probably create a good deal of ire against me on the Internet when people find out what it is. So, I just want to say in advance that I promise you, for all those who love the mythology that I will be tackling, trust that I love it as much as you do. And I will respect it, and hopefully make it not suck.

Film School also has it that Trevorrow said he's a big Star Wars fan and would love to direct Star Wars, from a previous interview.

Star Wars Episode VII has a 2015 release date.
