Star Trek Director J.J. Abrams Said No To Star Wars
In the latest issue of Empire Magazine we learn that J.J. Abrams, director of the new Star Trek Into Darkness, actually turned down doing the new Star Wars movie for Disney.
We've previously heard from Abrams who said he had no intention of directing and now we learn that early on, he told them no.
There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.
January is fast approaching and by all accounts Disney will announce the new Star Wars director then.
Recently, Kathlenn Kennedy, who is overseeing Star Wars for Disney, said that an announcement and update will be coming in January.
Star Wars Episode VII has a 2015 release date.
