Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer Facebook Promotion Is Fake

Now this is rather funny.

Earlier today it surfaced that if a Star Trek Into Darkness "Official" Facebook page got a whopping 500,000 "likes," J.J. Abrams would release the first trailer. There was a "press release" and everything which announced a contest as well.

Turns out that is a fake, but the funny thing is -- Marvel Studios is really doing it for Iron Man 3. While we don't know how may "likes" Marvel Studios is requiring, it seems like an awful lot as Tony Stark's arc reactor needs to be "recharged" with the "likes," which will reveal an exclusive preview of Iron Man 3.

Getting back to the Star Trek thing, maybe this is J.J. Abrams' way of getting back at the Trekkers for spilling all the beans with the set images.

And no. I'm not aware of aware of an official release date for the Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer.

Hopefully soon, though!

Star Trek Into Darkness has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
