Star Trek Into Darkness Hits $400 Million; Still Short Domestically Of 2009 Movie
Star Trek Into Darkness has crossed the $400 million mark, putting the movie above the $385 million gross from the 2009 movie.
The effort is all due to international sales as Star Trek Into Darkness is doing almost double what the previous movie did in foreign markets, and has yet to be released in Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Greece, Spain and Japan.
However, the sequel still has yet to reach the $258 million that Star Trek made domestically in the U.S. in 2009.
As it stands, Star Trek Into Darkness is more than $40 million short with $211 million.
The total estimated number for Star Trek Into Darkness stands around $411 million.
Paramount specifcally targeted the international markets with a big PR campaign that included exclusive footage and cast appearances, which has paid off.
There is already talk of "Star Trek 3," with the possible return of J.J. Abrams.
