J.J. Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness will get adapted into a novel from writer Alan Dean Foster.

StarTrek.com shared the news that Foster will be returning to pen the new Trek novel, as he previously wrote the 2009 Star Trek book as well.

No additional details are known as we do not even know the general plot of the upcoming Star Trek "2" movie.

Abrams has kept everyone on a tight leash about Star Trek Into Darkness and recently made an appearance on the Conan O'Brien show where he revealed only a 3-second clip, which was an image of Zachary Quinto as Spock wearing a volcano suit.

Recent news also includes writer/producer Bob Orci responding to a fan's complaint after the Conan O'Brien footage aired in that there has been no promotion. Orci said Star Trek Into Darkness "will melt your face and make your eyeballs bleed."

Star Trek Into Darkness has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
