Star Trek 2 (2013): J.J. Abrams Finally Confirms Benedict Cumberbatch as Villain

Believe it or not, even though Benedict Cumberbatch has been said to be the Star Trek Into Darkness villain by just about everybdody, director J.J. Abrams never officially recognized that.

Abrams, who ran a - pardon the pun - tight ship on the set of Star Trek Into Darkness is known for his secrecy. After the popparzzi snapped a few pics, Abrams erected barriers to keep them out, and we've heard numerous times from the cast that Abrams would set his phaser on kill if they leaked any information.

Now with Star Trek Into Darkness in post-production, in an interview with Yahoo (Via Trek Web), J.J. Abrams lets it be known, that yes, Benedict Cumberbatch is the villain.

J.J. Abrams is asked if Cumberbatch is the villian with Abrams responding in the affirmative: "Uh, huh."

Just which villain?

That remains to be seen as it's been rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Khan, with the latest being that it's Gary Mitchell.

Abrams also spoke about working with the cast and said that they are editing the movie.

"...comes out next May, and we're just editing now. It is obvioiusly a little to early to be talking specifically about the movie, but we're editing the film now. It has been a blast working with the same cast, and some new amazing actors, including Benedict Cumberbatch, who is this British actor who is mind-blowing great, and we are putting the movie together now."

Star Trek Into Darkness has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
