Simon Kinberg Says They Would Have To Recast For X-Men: Apocalypse

Yesterday saw the news that Bryan Singer will return to direct X-Men: Apocalypse with it also said the film will feature a young Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Now writer Simon Kinberg in a fan QnA answers questions regarding the casting of those characters.

While Kinberg doesn't confirm the characters will appear, he does state they will be recast if they use them.

"If we included some of the original X-Men, like Storm and Jean and Scott and others, in Apocalypse, yeah we would have to recast them because Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before X1, which now insanely was ten to fifteen years ago." he told Yahoo. "Halle and Famke and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful job of bringing those characters to life and they are so identified as the actors with those parts now, so it would be a tall task, but I also would have said before First Class, that there would be no way we could find actors who could stand along side Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart, and I think we managed to with Michael and James, finding their own interpretations of the characters. Not doing an impersonation. Are we going to have to recast? If some of those characters are in the movie, we would. But we will see."

Kinberg also goes over the chronological order of the X-Men movies and says if they are all still relevant.

The answer is: X-Men: First Class, the past part of Days of Future Past, Origins Wolverine in the 70s, then X-Men 1, 2, 3, The Wolverine, and then the future part of Days of Future Past.

Redundant, no. But we certainly rewrite some of the history of Last Stand and X-Men: Origins. One of the things we talk about in Days Of Future Past is you can change the future. It's like a stream that moves in one direction. You can create a new ripple in it, but you don't necessarily change the current. And what we did in Days Of Future Past was change some things, but like you see at the end of the film, they end up back at the mansion in the future, so most of the current continued in the same direction, so most of the things that would have happened in X1, 2, 3, Wolverine, still happened, but with slight adjustment.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" has a May 27, 2016 release.
