Shannara TV Series Picked Up By MTV; TMNT Director Jonathan Liebesman Onboard

Body

12549 The popular "Shannara" fantasy novel series from Terry Brooks has been picked up by MTV.

Numerous Hollywood trade sites are reporting that MTV has given a straight-to-series order for “Shannara,” which will consist of 10 episodes.

Originally, Jon Favreau was supposed to be attached to the project; now it's stated he had to exit due to scheduling conflicts, but will remain on as an executive producer.

In Favreau's place will be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles director Jonathan Liebesman who will direct the first two episodes and will be an executive producer as well.

Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar are set to write "Shannara."

It's said the first season will be based on the second book, Elfstones of Shannara.

Terry Brooks will serve as an executive producer.

Here's the description for Elfstones of Shannara from Amazon (great books, btw):

When Wil Ohmsford is summoned to guard the Amberle on a perilous quest to gather a new seed for a new tree, he is faced with the Reaper, the most fearsome of all Demons. And Wil is without power to control them....
