Robert Downey Jr. Says Yes To Iron Man 4 If Directed By Mel Gibson

Robert Downey Jr. has been making the press rounds for his latest movie, The Judge, and of course he has been asked about Iron Man 4.

Last time Robert Downey Jr. gave a subtle tease mentioning that he would ride the wave to the end, and now the actor talks with Deadline mentioning that he will do Iron Man 4 if it's directed by Mel Gibson.

Gibson and Downey are friends who both happen to share a sordid history with drugs and alcohol.

Marvel once took a gamble on Downey with the first Iron Man movie, and Robert Downey Jr. thinks Mel Gibson should be given another chance as well.

Well, first off, he has changed so much. Nobody should make a case for somebody who just wants forgiveness but hasn’t changed, but he’s a fundamentally different guy. I think it was just the very worst aspects of somebody’s psyche being treated as though they were the blanket statement about a person.

It's then suggested that the two should team together.

Marvel badly wants Iron Man 4 and you’ve said you aren’t doing it. How about the idea you’ll do that movie if Mel directs it?
DOWNEY: Correct.

Is that our headline?
DOWNEY: Why not? That movie would be bananas.
