Ridley Scott's Prometheus: aliens but not Aliens
Back in January, we reported on the announcement from Fox that Ridley Scott will be helming a new sci-fi alien (lowercase) blockbuster dubbed "Prometheus."
Now, it was thought that "Prometheus" had nothing to do with the previous Alien (uppercase) series according to various reports. Perhaps, Ridley Scott's words were taken out of context by some.
"While 'Alien' was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place," Ridley Scott tells us.
Turns out, reports are bleeding in that this does tie-in -- of sorts.
Apparently, Ridley Scott's new sci-fi epic will feature aliens that are Aliens -- but they won't look like Aliens.
If I remember my Alien-lore correctly, whatever the creature the Aliens gestate in -- they resemble. So if an egg hatches in a human we get an Alien resembling more like we saw in the movies. If in dog -- you get an Alien-dog, etc.
So in this flick, the Aliens will not be recognizable to the humans, because it will be pre-Alien and before the humans knew what they even were -- in any form(?).
So, in essence, it's a "brand new" alien. So that means no familiar eggs, larvae, or classic looking Alien? Or even stomach-busters?
Either that, or all the humans die and no one is left to report on it.
Furthermore, the title "Prometheus" may not even hold true, and is said to be just being used - but does give us a clue as they are using it for a reason. Those familiar with their Greek Mythology could probably piece things together.
The film is said to set on a planet transformed to create the perfect bio-weopon, however no exact details are given as to what that exacly is or means.
Talk about putting a spin on things!
Makes you wonder if they are calling it "Aliens" related just to give it a bit more backbone, while really it's an entirely "new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place."
Either way, it still should be good and I'll be watching. Though, I am gonna be looking for that familiar SNAP!
