So, Thor’s final issue of what once was and will soon be again Journey Into Mystery.

I always have high hopes for the God of Thunder as he has always been one of my favorite characters. But the Storm Giants of Jotunheim have a word for the odor that doth escape Thor #621: P-U!

Now do not take me wrongly. There were many elements I kinda liked about the mag. For one, the art was much better that it has been in issues past. There was, as they say, a “big fight feel” to this climax of the World Eaters storyline. And the coloring knocked my socks off! With so many street level sagas being played in the dimly-lit, darkly-colored back alleys of the Marvel U. these days, it is nice to see some bright colors for a change, and these were cataclysmic.

Still, writer Matt Fraction’s script just did not do it for me, a long-time Thor fan. When he said he was bringing the Kirby Kosmic back to the magazine, I thought of journeys through space in oaken vessels, Blackworld, Ego, the Rigellians, the 4-D Man, the Destroyer armor and maybe even a new cosmic blast or two.

Well, I did get those things but they were in the pages of Astonishing Thor and the great Iron Man/Thor mini-series.

Here, the World Ash is spilt in twain, Odin has returned (baggage we no longer need) and the great galactic battle I pictured with the World Eaters ends not with a bang but a whimper.

The Thunder God deserved a better launch into his new title, folks. We all did.

P-U!
