Green Lantern#2 is a tale of two men. Both have suffered and been robbed of life’s riches. One has lost something more important to him than life itself, the other has gained same and would rather be without it.

This New 52 juxtaposition of Hal Jordan and Sinestro will be driving this book for quite a while, I feel, and I could not be happier. It guarantees both these great characters, fortified and bolstered by scribe and DC Architect (if you will) Geoff Johns, will be sharing some fantastic cosmic adventures for the foreseeable future, and hopefully free of the rest of the GLCso that we can get a handle on who these men are today.

Even before the relaunch, we as readers have watched Johns’ development of Sinestro into possibly the most important character in the GL mythos, even over Hal Jordan himself. In the same way under Chris Claremont we became sympathetic and understanding of the ways and logics of the villain Magneto in Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men, so too has Johns brought us the thinking and perspective of Sinestro in a manner that makes the character both sympathetic and reviled at the same moment.

GL#2 is a reeling, rollicking time for both men on Earth as Sinestro dangles a carrot under the nose of Jordanonly to reel it in and then cast it out again. The word play between the two is brilliant and obviously sets up future stories for this relationship.

Not to slight the wondrous art team of Mahnke, Alamy & Champagne or the brilliant colors of David Baron. The pictures crispy follow and deftly display the complex story and keep this book one of the cleanest, most colorful romps in comics today.

If you have not yet jumped on the Green Lantern bandwagon (and why not?), this is a good book with which to start.
