Michael Bay Will Never Direct DC Or Marvel Movies
With Michael Bay being a special effects magic-maker behind the camera and known for all his explosions, you would think he would be a natural for a big, blockbuster, epic superhero movie.
Well, think again, because the Transformers director says he isn't directing a DC or Marvel movie any time soon.
“I really liked Civil War. I like a lot of the Marvel movies,” the Collider reports. “When I saw Iron Man, it broke a lot of new ground for me, and it was a great character. Funny, witty, I liked that about it.”
The article notes that Michael Bay does "wonder where [superhero movies] are going to go,” with the article further noting that Michael Bay said Batman vs. Superman and Captain America: Civil War have “almost the same setup.”
So the reason for Michael Bay not wanting to tackle a DC or Marvel movie? He doesn't want to get involved with a movie universe that’s already fully formed and set up. It's said Michael Bay wants to create the world himself, which would rule out any of the current DC or Marvel cinematic shared universes.
"I wouldn’t want to, it’s not my thing, it’s just not my gig," Michael Bay explained. “I don’t ever wanna take someone like a third of something or second of something. I gotta do my own thing--because the most fun is when a real director creates the world. You know, you talk to Ridley Scott, one our favorite things to do is to create the world. Steven Spielberg, create the world. That is what it’s about. If I were to do something I would have to redo it my way.”
Michael Bay currently has Transformers: The Last Knight in the works and just released the new trailer.
