With the announcement that Michael B. Jordan will be playing Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in the new Fantastic Four movie, the internet immediately exploded with fandom outrage.

Johnny Storm and the rest of the Fantastic Four are known for being white characters, especially considering the Human Torch has a white sister in the comic with Sue Storm, Invisible Woman.

In the new Fantastic Four movie, Kate Mara, a white actress, is playing Sue Storm. It remains to be scene how director Josh Trank will explain their relationship (half brother and sister? adopted siblings?).

Regarding Michael B. Jordan as a black actor, the fan response has seemed to be not about racism, ie Jordan's color, but the fact that he is so different than what the character is known for. A similar response by the fans would have occurred if Torch was being played by an Asian actor etc.

TMZ caught up with Michael B. Jordan and asked him about the "purists" who didn't like that he was playing the Human Torch.

Jordan's response?

They will see it anyway.
