With Max Landis off the Chronicle sequel, the writer has let the origins of the powers be known in the movie.

Speaking with Buzz Feed, Max Landis states the powers are acutally from tiny organisms, which sounds vaguely similar to the Midi-Chlorians from Star Wars.

Landis had a whole trilogy mapped out in his mind, including the revelation of the mysterious source of the heroes’ powers, Massive Organic Geoelectric Objects, which he says are “a race of crystalline organisms that communicate and propel themselves through radio waves, and turn higher life forms into telekinetic drones.”

Landis previously mentioned that his ideas for the Chronicle sequel could have been an Avengers-style found-footage movie.

"The multi-movie low budget Chronicle-based found footage superhero universe culminating in an Avengers type team up was a real good one," Landis offered.

Max Landis also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Frankenstein movie which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Von Frankenstein.
