Man of Steel Opens With $21 Million So Far

Good news for Warner Bros. and Superman fans in that the Man of Steel has opened with $21 million for its Thursday night Walmart advanced screening as well as midnight openings.

And this is on top of the $170 million the movie has made with promotional partners.

The Walmart Man of Steel premiere netted $12 million, with the midnight showing another $9 million.

Those numbers strongly suggest at least a $100 million opening for the Zack Snyder reboot.

So far reaction to Man of Steel has been rather mixed.

Rotten Tomatoes has a 58% critic rating, but a 82% approval rating for Man of Steel.

For comparison, the same site has a 78% critic rating for Iron Man 3, with 83% of audiences liking it.

The Dark Knight Rises saw a surprising 87% critic approval, with 92% of audiences liking it as well.

Iron Man 3 saw $15.6 million for its advanced screenings, with The Dark Knight Rises $30.6 million.

Worth a mention is that Man of Steel is the first of a possible series of movies and not the third.
