Joel Silver Reboots Escape From New York; Possibly With Gerald Butler, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hardy or Liam Neeson
Looks like the classic 1981 John Carpenter movie, Escape From New York, is the next to get the reboot movie, and it has Joel Silver Attached.
Silver recently departed ways with Warner Bros. (and looks to have taken the Lobo movie with him) as Escape From New York is said to be coming from his Silver Pictures and Studio Canal.
Deadline says that Joel Silver is creating a new Escape From New York franchise that will be a re-telling of the original that starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken attempting to save the president in a post-apocalyptic future.
The new Escape From New York is compared to Rise of the Planet of the Apes in that it will have a similar-type origin story turning it into a franchise.
Silver's Silver Pictures and Studios Canal have a previous relationship as they have worked together on the Liam Neeson films Unknown and Non-Stop as well as on the upcoming Sean Penn Prone Gunman movie.
Regarding the new Snake Plissken, Deadline has listed Gerald Butler, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hardy or Liam Neeson as possibilities.
