Earlier, a rumor surfaced that Robert Downey Jr. was said to be making an appearance in the upcoming James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

It was first put forth by some website in a speculation-type article that Iron Man would be appearing because Tony Stark is going to be featured in the new Guardians of the Galaxy comic book reboot by Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven.

Reportedly, a source read the article and confirmed that it was true.

However, James Gunn was asked on his Facebook by a writer of JoBlo.com if the rumor was indeed true, with Gunn responding as follows:

When fan sites have a slow news day, I guess they just make shit up. Honestly - almost all of the "news" about my upcoming projects has been utterly and completely false. And I really mean "all."

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release date and is directed by James Gunn.
