Iron Man 3: Ben Kingsley Gets Standing Ovation As The Mandarin
Fans got their first look at Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin earlier in the week, with more of a reveal with the release of the first Iron Man 3 trailer.
Impressions across the net regarding Kingsley's Mandarin seem to be divided as the movie character isn't as Chinese-centric as his comic book counterpart.
However, interest was peeked when it was revealed that the Mandarin was sporting a Captain America shield tattoo with an "A" in the center.
Also across the net, there has been comparison of the Iron Man 3 trailer to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, with even mention of the Mandarin's voice sounding slightly similar to the Bane voice, as well as the broken Iron Man mask, destroyed mansion, darker tone and more.
Obviously we've only seen a small amount of footage - and this is Ben Kingsley we are talking about here - so hopefully fans aren't too turned off -- because those who witnessed the oscar-winning actor's first performance on set as the Mandarin were not.
"On his last take of his first full day as the Mandarin, when they yelled 'Cut!' the entire crew burst into applause, spearheaded by Mr. Downey himself," Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige told USA Today. "It was pretty amazing to see that."
Feige continues with mention of Kingsley's portrayal, and without any doubt, just how good it is.
"That's what you get when you hire Sir Ben Kingsley. He's so excited about his part and so into this character, and frankly just scaring the heck out of everybody," Feige said. "They're like, 'You've broken us out of our skeptical malaise!' "
Iron Man 3 blasts off May 3rd, 2013 directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.
