Image Comics CHEW heads to Showtime

picDeadline reports a script to the popular Image Comics comic book, CHEW, has been picked up by Showtime and will be made into a 30 minute television series.

CHEW, from John Layman and Rob Guillory, is shall we say..a bit different? But different in a good way!

While I don't personally follow the comic, I think I read one or two issues, CHEW sees Federal Agent (FDA in the comic, I think), Tony Chu, solving crimes by - eating things! He gets psychic impressions from things he - chews -- get it! Now, this just doesn't pertain to food - remember he is trying to solve crimes - and I'll leave it at that!

No surprise, as CHEW being from Image Comics, is connected to the recent hit show and fellow Image book The Walking Dead - that is insanely popular in comics and on AMC. Deadline tells us that the company behind The Walking Dead, Circle of Confusion, is also behind CHEW. If I remember correctly, Robert Kirkman, featured a free issue of CHEW in his comic, which is, of course, The Walking Dead. Circle of Confusion is also behind the Bendis Powers television adaption.

The writers behind the SYFY show Eureka wrote the script which will be adapted for Showtime, with Circle of Confusion's Stephen Hopkins on as director and executive producer. Hopkins previously worked on Californication, Shameless and House of Lies for Showtime, so it sounds like CHEW is in good hands.
