The Hunger Games Takes In Over $200 Million For Opening
The midnight opening saw records shattered as The Hunger Games took the top spot for a non-sequel with $19.7 million, and went on to have the fifth best Friday opening ever ($68 million).
The trend continued on to Saturday where another $51 million was won.
Domestically, the The Hunger Games brought in a whopping $155 million for opening weekend, which places it in third behind the likes of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million) and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight ($158.4 million).
Worldwide, The Hunger Games finished with a cool $214 million.
In addition, The Hunger Games marks the best grossing film to date for Lionsgate, and with an estimated cost of $80 million — that ain't too shabby!
And with all the hype, including the added book promotion at local retailers — I've actually managed to pick up the book. So far, it's pretty good!
