Guardians of the Galaxy Top Grossing Film In 2014 In U.S.

James Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy had quite an amazing year as the movie is the #1 film of 2014 in the United States.

Guardians of the Galaxy grossed $332,657,316 in the U.S., with a total worldwide box office of $772,257,316.

The Marvel Studios cosmic movie beat out the likes of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The LEGO Movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Maleficent, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Godzilla.

Guardians of the Galaxy is also the sixth biggest Marvel movie, trailing the three Raimi Spider-Man movies, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers.

Guardians also holds the #2 spot overall for worldwide gross of 2014, with Michael Bay's Transformers: Age Of Extinction on top with $1.087 billion.

Marvel has already ordered a sequel with James Gunn returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 2 set for a May 5, 2017 release date.
