Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Plot Revealed - Star-Lord Front and Center

Check out the following reported plot description for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

The information comes from The Grid, a subscription-based film tracking site.

Most likely the U.S. pilot would be Star-Lord, who was featured front and center in the Guardians of the Galaxy concept art.

Star-Lord, in the comics, was an ex-NASA astronaut who became Star-Lord when he returned to a space mission and took the place of the rightful choice.

The "ex-cons" would be the rest of the group, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax and Gamora. Having them be "ex-cons" would be one way of getting around a full-fledged origin for every character. They could just present themselves as a group, say we're ex-cons and go from there, with minimal origins. Maybe just a bit of background?

But we also see "who have something everyone wants?"

Another cosmic cube?

In the comic books, Star-Lord did acquire a cosmic cube and use it against Thanos, the reported big baddie of the movie.

However, that may be too "Phase 1" Marvel Studios, and maybe they are moving on to the Infinity Gems and/or Gauntlet.

Or maybe the something is not "something" — but someone?

Adam Warlock in a cocoon?

I suppose the "U.S. pilot" could possibly be Vance Astro as well, which would bridge the original Guardians of the Galaxy with the new Guardians of the Galaxy, and Astro, aka Major Victory, did resurface in Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy series, which the movie seems to be based on. And if Astro used Captain America's shield as he does in the comics, that might help audiences who are more familiar with The Avengers come to see the movie.

However, I'm not buying Vance Astro would be a major focal point for the movie, though — enough to warrant that he's the center of the plot. Most likely it's Star-Lord.

Guess, we still have a while before we find out.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie explodes into theaters August 1, 2014.
