Good news for fans of Gojira, as it's become known that a Godzilla sequel has been greenlit by Legendary.

Deadline reports that the Godzilla sequel was confirmed to them, though they state the sequel will be from Legendary and Warner Bros.

It's possible the Godzilla sequel could be from Legendary and Universal as recently Thomas Tull and Legendary parted ways with WB; however, there could be a contract between Legendary and Warner Bros. regarding potential Godzilla sequels.

Regardless, the good news is that as a result of the monstrous opening for Godzilla, it has warranted a sequel.

Godzilla opened to around $93 million this weekend at the U.S. box office - far surpassing estimates - with close to another $100 million internationally.

Previously, Godzilla director Gareth Edwards mentioned if he could get his wish, the sequel would resemble Destroy All Monsters.
