George Clooney Is The Least Qualified Person To Comment On Ben Affleck As Batman
George Clooney was featured as the Caped Crusader in the 1997 Batman & Robin film, which saw negative reaction to Joel Schumacher's second take on the character and franchise.
So who better to ask about Ben Affleck as the new Batman. Turns out not George Clooney.
Clooney recently spoke to Empire about his latest film Gravity, and when questioned on Ben Affleck as Batman offered that he isn't the best choice to offer advice.
I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part. I tend to look at it like this – let’s just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing.
Schumacher's Batman & Robin is considered to be one of the worst Batman movies in existence as it features a bat-suit with nipples as well as an exuberant cast of characters including Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and Jim Carrey as the Riddler with Chris O'Donnell as Robin.
George Clooney was cast as the new Batman when Schumacher drew the cowl over his face on a From Dusk Till Dawn movie poster (has a good chin). David Duchovny was also up for the role after Val Kilmer refused to return.
Other choices for Mr. Freeze included Sylvester Stallone and Anthony Hopkins.
Prior to Warner Bros. going forward with Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, Schumacher pitched a "Batman: Year One" movie that would have been a darker take on the character with an African-American Selina Kyle living in the ghetto and Kurt Russell as Commissioner Gordon.
The sequel to "Man of Steel" goes into production next year for a July 17, 2015 release also starring Henry Cavilll, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
