Outgoing Commissioner Gordon, Gary Oldman, has some advice for the incoming Detective Gordon who will be played by Ben McKenzie for Fox's Gotham TV series.

Read the comic books.

"I’m sure he’s going to be fabulous," Oldman told Access Hollywood.

"Go back to the comic books. That’s what I did. There’s great stuff about Gordon. He had [this] whole other life,” Oldman offered.

Gary Oldman played Jim Gordon for Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Trilogy and can be seen in RoboCop, currently in theaters.

Joining Ben McKenzie on Gotham includes Donal Logue cast as Gordon's partner, Detective Harvey Bullock; Robin Lord Taylor as the Penguin; Sean Pertwee as Alfred; Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen and Erin Richards as Barbara Kean.
